Czech Language Certificate Exam – CCE
The Certified Czech Language Exam for foreigners
is offered at four levels of proficiency:
CCE – A1
CCE – A2
CCE – B1
CCE – B2
This exam is designed not only for the university students, but also for all foreigners age 16 and over, who want or need to prove their level of communication competency in the Czech language.
Participation in courses held by Charles University is not a prerequisite for this exam.
The certificate of achievement may be issued in Czech or English.

The Czech Language Certificate Exam for foreigners verifies all four levels of achieved communication competency in accordance with the criteria specified in the Common European Framework of Reference. The exam contents draw upon language material specific to the respective definitions and relevant referential levels of the Czech language. Basic language skills in written and spoken communication are examined (listening comprehension, reading comprehension, writing, speaking).
Recognition: The examination is recognized by most Czech and foreign employers and by some universities and colleges. It can help you for entrance examinations, improve your career and measure your progress in Czech.
Memberships: Our institution is a member of the international testing associations EALTA, ILTA and an institutional affiliate of ALTE (i.e. the Association of Language Testers in Europe). Many of our employees are members of other accredited organizations such as the Association of Teachers of Czech as a Forgeign Language, the Linguistic Association, the Czech and Slovak Association of Teachers of Foreign Languages in Higher Education and the International Association of Teachers of Czech.
Parts of the exam:
Lexical-grammatical text (B2 level only)
Exam evaluation – passed/failed. To pass the examination, it is necessary to reach at least 60 % in each part. The certificate is valid for life and is issued either in Czech or English according to the candidate’s wish.
Exam dates: The exam is held three times a year, for all levels offered above, in: February, May, November.
Place of the exam: If not specified otherwise, the examination takes place at the Institute of Language and Preparatory Studies (ILPS), Vratislavova 10, Praha 2 at 9 a.m. It is necessary to register on site at least 30 minutes before the examination. Please bring a valid identification card with photo (e.g. passport), the payment voucher proving you paid for the examination and writing tools (at least two pens). Please make sure you are familiar with regulations prior to the examination.
Application: Applicants must enroll 30 (no later than 10) working days prior to the exam date – using the on-line application form, see below.
Exam fee: CZK 3 500 per attempt. All participants of the ILPS Czech language courses are entitled to a discount of CZK 600. Payment must be made no later than 10 working days prior to the selected exam date. Please see below for detailed information regarding payments.
